VUT and Yunex Traffic explore AI applications for safer roads

23.10.2026

How can artificial intelligence help detect dangerous situations on the road in time? This was one of the topics discussed during a recent meeting between researchers from Brno University of Technology and representatives of Yunex Traffic, focusing on research conducted within the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence (NCUI).

VUT was represented by experts from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, specifically the Department of Telecommunications and the Department of Control and Instrumentation. The discussion covered research progress, practical challenges and the next steps towards applying the technologies under development in real-world traffic environments. As an NCUI partner, Yunex Traffic acts as a consulting partner, contributing its experience in real-world traffic systems.

One of the outcomes of the research conducted within the Autonomous Systems work package (WP5) is AnomVision, software that uses large language models to analyse traffic camera footage. It can detect accidents and hazardous situations even at locations it has not been trained on beforehand. Researchers are also addressing the technology’s current limitations, including difficulties in detecting small or distant accidents in camera footage.

The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between research teams and industry partners in developing and validating new technologies. Insights from real-world traffic operations help researchers better understand practical needs and identify ways to translate research results into solutions that can be used in practice.
